Day # 12–Driving to Headquarters CG, Fundy National Park–Hiking the Point Wolf Trail, Village of Alma

on Sunday, June 23, 2013

We were back on the road again today by 10 am for our trip to Fundy National Park. Getting to Provincial Route 1 was a challenge but with Ron’s internal GPS (no road signs after an arrow pointed in the direction of P1E) we managed to find route  1. That was after many turns and the great navigational instincts of the Captain.

It was a 2 hour drive to FNP and route 114 to the park was as bad as described. Ron took it easy while other vehicles were passing us at warp speed bouncing all over the road.

The FNP was not cheap (again nothing here is). There was a $27.00 entrance fee then an additional $70.00 charge for the camp site for a two day/night stay.  It is a three-way site as they say here in Canada – their term for full hook-ups. LOL

We had an end site (site 9) so no one to the left of us. We have an excellent WiFi signal and great water pressure. Oh yes, and my washer/dryer miraculously fixed itself and is now working perfectly. Those who know me well will understand my glee!!! LOL I think I threw off the sensors by overloading it – so now I monitor carefully how much I put into it .

The weather continues to be fair with cloudy skies, cool temperatures and projected rain later today. Not the bright hot sunny days we left behind at home!!!! Another unusual phenomenon is that although the temps are cool it is very humid making you both hot and cold at the same time.

We took a ride to the visitor center for some information and quickly realized that the National Park Service here is quite different then back home. There are kids working the desk ( all very nice kids) without a lot of information, so again we were left to our own interpretation of the map without detail. (We have been so spoiled by  detailed maps and the Rangers in our National Parks).

We checked out the solar heated pool and walked along the rocks on the shore.

Then it was off to the  Point Wolf Trail where we were met by a New Hampshire like covered bridge.

It had started to rain so the pictures are a little hazy.

Then it was on to the  Ship Haven Trail along the coast .

The hike was down a natural trail with a detour sign to the beach. We took the detour and half-way down the steep slope we turned around. We could see that the beach was dry because – again- the tide was out – so we opted to go back to the trail to catch the vistas.

And , Oh Yes, The stairs!!!! An example of only one set of the  5  sets we went down and back up again. Yes, we are getting our exercise.

It rained off and on during our hike making the vistas very ethereal appearing. Quite nice!

After dinner we went into Alma, the little fishing village, adjacent to the park. The people here are super friendly and make you feel very welcomed. Everyone  takes the time to wave or say hello.

We stopped by the the Alma Lobster Shop. It was after 7 PM so the restaurant was closed.

The tide was out – we seem to be missing the high tides – and the boats in the harbor were now dry docked.

Again, the rains came so we headed back to the car. Ron had an ice cream need so we went to the local diner to get some. The young man behind the counter was super friendly and was very interested in our journey. After chatting with him for a while we went back to the MH and relaxed for the rest of the evening. Our plan is to take two hikes to some waterfalls tomorrow.
