Day 6 – Lubec, Maine, Sunset Point RV Park

on Monday, June 17, 2013

It was time to move on so we prepared for departure and so did Jewel. Her departure meant she dug herself a dirt bed under the picnic table and wasn’t leaving. LOL She really does not like to ride. We had to coax her out by pretending we were going for another walk.

We will be staying at a CG one mile from the Canadian border in Lubec, Maine the most Easterly city in the U.S.

It was a 110 mile scenic drive on very narrow roads, so once again slow going. When we arrived at the Sunset Point RV Park we were pleasantly surprised. The sites all sit facing  the water on beautiful grassy Knowles.

We were looking at Canada out our front window. The bridge to Campobello Island, Canada is .7 miles from the CG. We had been there a few years ago so decided  to opt out this time. Our travel destiny in Canada is Nova Scotia and  Prince Edward Island.

Again we lucked out because there are not many people here. Everyone is so very friendly and greeted us like we were family.

Even Jewel made a new friend, Maggie, another schnauzer.

We took Jewel for a walk around the beautiful property and then sat enjoying the serenity and view.

We were overlooking the  ocean with tides reaching up to 28 feet in some areas. Since we were in a sound the tide was not has high. When we arrived the tide was out but by early evening it had come back in.

There were panoramic views from every angle of the CG. Just a beautiful place to relax and appreciate life.

The CG host, from Texas,  came over for a chat and out neighbors from Georgia spent time talking with us as well. As I mentioned before the people here are very friendly.

In late afternoon it began to rain so everyone dispersed to their respective homes on wheels. Once the rain stopped and after dinner we decided to take a ride into the town of Lubec.

This area is very remote so we were thinking that the main industry here is fishing. The town is very old and rundown. Almost like a ghost town in some places  with very pretty Victorians in other areas away from the town.

We headed out to the Quoddy Lighthouse but it was closed for the day. We did stop in at the state park and got a few pictures of nature. The mist in the air made everything seem more beautiful.

Jewel was waiting for us for another walk. She is now getting three good walks a day. Keeps her waist slim and us active!!! She grabbed her squirrel which indicates walk time to her and waited impatiently for us to get the hint.

For this walk we tried to stay off the wet grass so walked up the entrance road and around the apartment complexes that are also owned by the CG.

Once settled in for the night we were again awed at the beautiful sunset that graced the horizon.
