We were blessed with another great sunny morning. Our plan was to get going and take in the Quoddy Point Lighthouse and hike the shore trail.
We started out well but got side tracked with another set of friendly neighbors, Dan & Penny. They have an older model Mountain Aire so the initial conversation revolved around our MH’s.
Then Ron mentioned that we were heading to Nova Scotia and that opened up another discussion. Dan and Penny have gone there for their summer vacation for the last 10 years and were a fountain of good information. By the time we finished talking it was 2 PM. So much for an early start – LOL.
After eating a quick lunch we took a drive to the lighthouse. It is one of the most photographed lighthouses in Maine and is fully functional. It is not open to the public for climbing so Ron was a little disappointed.
Smile Ron!!! Don’t sulk because you couldn't climb the lighthouse. The little cardboard one will Do!!!!! LOL
We then took the trail to what we thought was going to be the overlook. The trail was .5 miles up some very rugged terrain but when we finally arrived at the top there was no overlook just an 80 foot cliff.
The trail was pretty steep in places and had many areas that were difficult to maneuver at least for me with my short legs.
When we got back to the parking lot we noticed another trail head sign indicating that it was the trail to the overlook. DUH! We went up the wrong trail. OK, now we would do another trail to find the overlook
The second trail, although the same distance – one mile round trip was very wide , flat and a lot easier hike. Oh well, two one-mile back to back hikes is good for the soul.
They built the observation stair-stepper just for me. They must have know I needed the exercise. LOL It was so high you couldn’t see the top but the views were great.
Couldn’t see the bottom from the top step either!
Back at the CG we sat out to enjoy the views, had good conversation with our neighbors and watched another beautiful sunset.
When the sun disappeared, the sky turned beautiful shades of pink and purple that were reflected back from the water. It was truly a magnificent display from Mother Nature.
Another beautiful ending to a great day.
