It was a quiet night at the Wayside so we slept fairly well. Ron got some great sunset pictures and we enjoyed sitting outside overlooking the inlet. That is, until the black flies found us, then it was back indoors.
We met some very nice people ( Irwin & Rennata) parked next to us. Although they live in Canada they migrated from Germany in 1967. They both still have very heavy German accents so were difficult to understand at times.
We had decided to take a ride into Halifax and try to get tickets to the Royal Nova Scotia International Tattoo. The production is put on annually for a one week period, has people from multiple countries participating and is run by volunteers. It has been promoted as a must if in Halifax.
We arrived in Halifax around 3:30 pm and drove around for quite a long while before finding a parking garage close to where we believed the Metro Center was located. There were no signs indicating where the Halifax Metro Center was and the on-line information gave two different addresses. We parked the car and started walking armed with the information we had from the web and a sketchy map. Finally, after 30 minutes we had to ask. As it turned out we were in the general area but without signs indicating where the center was we could have walked around for another 30 minutes.
Walking around Halifax was like walking around San Francisco with the up and down steep hills. Good exercise but bad on the poor old knees.
The Citadel at the top of the hill is where we take the right to the Metro Center. It doesn’t look very steep in the picture, but it was.
We did get tickets to the show despite being the last minute, so we were happy. We stopped to check out the Sports Hall of Fame in the complex and got a cool picture of the Crosby family dryer.
Not every parent would allow this but in the end their son became a star professional hockey player.
We walked down to the pier and enjoyed the variety of boats coming in and out of the harbor.
We stopped at Murphy’s on the pier and enjoyed a fantastic dinner. I have never been a seafood lover but am quickly discovering why so many people are. The food was great and the views from the pier incredible.
The service was initially very good then our waitress disappeared. She was very busy so we didn’t think anything of it until she never came back with the bill. Since we were not in a hurry we waited 30 minutes and still she never came back to the table. She was buzzing all around us with other customers but never looked our way.
When I got up to go to the ladies room I asked her for the bill. She looked confused and said were you one of my tables? Then the light dawned and she brought us our bill. I suppose we could have left without paying since no one thought they had our table!!! The place was a mob scene and I’m not sure how they were keeping track of things anyway.
The walk back to the Metro Center was nice. It had cooled off and there was a breeze blowing.
We were about 45 minutes early for the show so settled in for the wait. We were fortunate and had great seats.

The show had a very strong military influence with military bands and groups from all over the world. Interspersed throughout the 2.5 hour program were a variety of different acts.l
The show was incredible with too many acts to list. The Military Bands and Drill teams were as well as the acrobatic talents were stupendous. . The step and highland dancers were very entertaining and the bagpipes amazing. There was such variety and everyone in the audience was on their feet several times. The most heartfelt performance was a choir that did a tribute to the children and teachers that lost there lives in the Sandy Hill Elementary School, Connecticut shootings. They had pictures of each child and teachers on the monitors making it so heartfelt and sad to see so many lives taken for no reason. Many people in the audience were in tears but the tribute from Canada to the USA was greatly appreciated.
The Grand Finale was just that. Totally grand and included all of the two thousand cast members. Everyone was perfectly coordinated and multiple bands from multiple countries played in perfect harmony while the hundreds of people in the chorus sang beautifully. We don’t know who coordinated all of this but giant Kudos to them for an excellent production!!
We managed to get out of Halifax easier then getting in. LOL Still, on the way back to the CG we missed an exit that wasn’t marked and looked like just another dark road instead of a highway. It took us out of the way by a couple of minutes and we were back on the right road and home by Midnight.
It was a great day and a great show!
