As usual we didn’t get a very early start. I was preparing the inside of the MH for travel while Ron was taking care of the outside. Dan came over to talk so that slowed us down a bit which was perfectly OK. The people we have met here have been just wonderful, friendly and kind. We have enjoyed talking and spending time with all of them.
Dan really loved Jewel and at every opportunity he would pick her up and hug her.
We finally left around 11:15 AM. After hugs and handshakes we were on our way. The plan was to drive to Newport and pick up some groceries at Wal Mart and fuel the MH. It was nice to buy groceries where there was variety and reasonable prices.
We took route 2 through Maine anticipating a stopover for the night in Bethel before continuing to Franconia Notch in NH. We haven’t been to the Flume in years so thought that would be a good adventure before we head home.
We arrived at the Bethel Outdoor Adventure and Campground around 5 PM having driven over 200m miles on mostly back country roads through quaint little New England towns – or as Ron always calls them Americana.
At 5 PM it was 97 degrees and really sticky. We did get a camp site without difficulty. Usually at this time of the year that is not an easy task. We did notice that along route 2 most of the motels and CG’s were empty. We think maybe tourism is way down due to the economy or maybe because people are more interested in theme parks then nature???? This CG only had 25 sites but had many available empty sites.
Once settled in I blew a circuit (only a 30 amp circuit instead of 50) trying to use my convection oven and AC at the same time. Ron was not pleased because I had to finish the cooking without AC. UUG!!!
After dinner and with the AC back on we took Jewel for a walk. I lasted about one minute because I was attacked by a million mosquitos and bitten relentlessly. They weren’t bothering Ron so he continued on and I retreated to the MH. Ron said he couldn’t believe how they were swarming me. It either means I’m really sweet (LOL) or really sour (more likely).
We settled in the for the night and were in bed by 10 PM. Still no TV,even here, 1/2 mile from Bethel.
