We woke again this morning to overcast gray skies. We were on track for a couple of hikes and a canoe ride in the afternoon but it didn’t look all that promising. From what we were told the rain was suppose to hold out until evening.
Around 10 AM we took the hike to Mill Falls. Both Ron and I weren’t expecting too much but were pleasantly surprised. The falls were quite beautiful and running hard and fast.
The water is a red/brown color from the tannin in the water like well steeped tea. Jewel came with us on the hike and was not to keen on getting to close to the roaring water.
We walked along the Mersey River and enjoyed hearing the rush of the water. There was a young couple who didn’t look like they were having a good time. They were both in long pants and jackets and had doused themselves with bug spray in the parking lot. Actually the bugs weren’t bad and we weren’t bothered in our shorts and short sleeve shirts.
When we got to the floating bridge we weren’t sure how Jewel was going to respond but she walked on that bridge like a big girl! LOL
We again ran into the young couple in the parking lot and she was very upset. She told me they couldn’t enjoy the hike because of the bugs and were packing it in and leaving.
The clouds were moving in pretty quickly so we got to the Beech Grove Trail Head hoping to get in another hike before the rain. Unfortunately most of the trail was completely flooded so we were unable to continue. OK then, we tried trail number three. Nope, got about 10 minutes in and it began to pour so we turned around and headed back to the CG.
Well, the rain came and didn’t stop. It has sure been raining a lot here in Nova Scotia. By late afternoon we scraped the idea of a boat ride and sulked the rest of the afternoon. Darn, no WiFI, no TV and no sunshine! What are we to do – Oh MY!!!! LOL
By 8 PM it had cleared so we took Jewel for our much needed walk and fresh air. We felt fortunate that we were able to get in at least one hike today. Hopefully the weather will improve for our time in Digby.
