Day 25 –Lunenburg & Mahone Bay , NS

on Saturday, July 6, 2013

The weather continues to be unbelievably hot and humid. The local people have told us that this type of weather is not common. We went from wearing winter PJ’ s with the heat on most of the day and night to continuous AC  and shorts and sandals. What  a change.

Ron was up at 5 AM for a gorgeous sunrise. We don’t often get sunrise pictures but today was the day.

We were told that we shouldn’t miss Lunenburg because of its English influence. So off we went to find that influence. To say we were disappointed would be putting it mildly. It was played up so much we thought we were in for a really different experience.

Although very nice it was a typical New England town with a strong tourist influence.  Lots of little shops with people poking around. There were ornate houses and buildings. Lunenburg has too many one-way streets that keep circling the port.

After leaving Lunenburg we drove to Mahone Bay, another small fishing village famous for its three churches that stand side by side overlooking the bay.

We stopped for some grocery items and headed back to the CG. Again we saw some beautiful architecture .

Back at the CG we took a walk to the petting zoo. LOL

By 7 PM it had cooled down so we decided to take Jewel for an evening walk. Remember the kid on the bike that almost ran us over – well this time he succeeded. We were walking on the grass along the road and the next thing I heard and felt was his bike crashing into my right hip. YIKES! That hurt. Thank God  I am well padded because there was no lasting effects from the hit.

Ron was shocked to see this kid come up from our right on the grass and crash into me  and landing on the ground, all the time  talking to himself. I think he has ADD because he did not seem to be able to comprehend what had just happened  and couldn’t focus on anything. He  picked up his bike and off he went like a speed demon. Later that evening Ron saw him cut in front of a moving truck. He is definitely a danger to himself and others. ‘

We sat outside and enjoyed the beautiful evening and sea breeze. The humidity level had dropped making it a very comfortable evening.

By 9:30 PM the sky was a beautiful pink  and  blue that was reflected in the water.

Tomorrow we will be going to Kejimkujik National Park or Keji for short. We read that the dark skies at the park make for phenomenal star gazing.
