Didn’t do too much today. Ron tried sitting by the river at 6 AM this morning but quickly retreated to our screen house because of all the mosquitoes.
I joined him, enjoying the quiet and peacefulness of the place.
While we were having our morning coffee and tea we were joined by our neighbor’s dog Olivia. She came in for a pet and to see if Jewel was out with us. (Jewel was in the MH curled up in a ball fast asleep)
Olivia is such a sweet and incredibly smart dog. She looks at you with knowing eyes and understands so much. She loves to fetch and will find a stick and bring it to you so she can play. Both Jewel and Olivia got along very well.
Ron and I did some organizing and cleaning and tackled the bugs on the windshield and the front of the MH. That is always a tough job. By the time we completed step one the temp had climbed to over 90 degrees and the sun was shining on the front of the MH. We had to give up (at least until later) finishing that job.
Ron spent a good part of the day chatting with Dan, Jeff and their two sons.I retreated to the MH with the AC on full blast. By 2 PM it was 95 degrees and the humidity was oppressive. From what I read on line (still no TV) we are in an extended heat wave in the Northeast.
We were planning a canoe ride after lunch but Jeff recommended we wait until the evening because it would be too hot on the river in the direct sunlight.
Around 6: 30 PM we went for a canoe ride on the river. There was no one else canoeing so we had river to ourselves. We paddled upstream for about 45 minutes and worked hard trying to get around the island. At that point the current was so strong it kept flipping the canoe around. After several attempts we decided to let the river current take us back downstream and enjoy the ride.
About one hour later we were back on shore with Jeff who was waiting for us with his rescue Kayak! Yes, I said rescue Kayak. Apparently he has had to go out and rescue other people who are not experienced at canoeing and got themselves caught up in the rocks.
He asked if we would like to try the Kayak so we obliged and it was a blast. Ron really was enjoying himself.
Then it was my turn!
Getting in the Kayak and paddling around was the easy part. Getting out was another story. Jeff is little and quite nimble. He was in and out of the Kayak like a jack-in-the box. Not so much for Ron and I. But, we did get a good laugh out of that struggle.

We had spent the majority of the day hanging around and preparing for our exit in the morning. Spending time on the river was just what we needed to end our day.
